Design in the 1960s

In the 60s, Pop Art was one of the most trendy currents. Born in the 1950s in Anglo-Saxon countries, the United States and England, this movement marks a real revolution in the field of art. Make way for popular tastes and the development of mass culture.

With Pop Art, curves, zigzags, and tangy colors make their appearance in interior decoration.

Lamp years 60 of the brand ArtJL

The 60s lamps from the ArtJL brand reflect this era: colorful, and with rounded shapes.

Functional and decorative objects, these lights can be installed:

  • on a coffee table in a living room,
  • or on a high table in a dining room,
  • on a side table in a hallway,
  • on your desk for your working evenings,
  • like a night light on a nightstand in your bedroom.

Depending on your needs, you will find lamps in different sizes in our online store:

A large lamp is able to brightly and dynamically illuminate your interior, even, like a diffuser, to project light effects on the walls.
A small lamp, it can be placed on your bedside table or a coffee table. It can be orientable, or even articulated. Useful if it functions as a reading light.

How is this vintage 60s lamp made?

Designer Jérôme Peyronnet makes these vintage design lamps from old obsolete radiators, forgotten in the attic of our grandparents. It gives them a second life. This is called upcycling. This current refers to the action of recovering objects that we no longer have use in order to bring them to life differently. With upcycling, he upgrades these old radiators into beautiful high-end designer lamps. All are unique pieces, numbered and signed.

Every time he turns an old radiator into a light fixture, he spends a lot of time cleaning it, taking it apart, sanding it and painting it. Once in perfect condition, so that it becomes a lamp, he adds a lighting system (socket and bulb), as well as a new electric wire and a switch.

What kind of lighting do you need for your 60s lamp?

For a living room or a bedroom, we advise you to choose a warm lighting, for a soft, warm light, tending towards yellow (from 1000 to 5000 Kelvins). This will help you create a cozy atmosphere.

For an office, for optimal lighting, opt instead to use natural, clear, white light of around 3,300 to 5,000 Kelvins.

The majority of our ArtJL lights are equipped with LED bulbs, low consumption (from 2 to 20 Watts). Several of them have an Edison LED bulb. With LED lighting, there is no heat release.
