During the 1950's, a modernist movement inspired designers. The shapes are freer, new materials are emerging. You will find them in the vintage designer lamps of the ArtJL brand.

Jérôme Peyronnet, craftsman, has designed high-end lamps from old electric heaters from the 1950s.

All are unique pieces. Upcycling made in France.

Design in the 1950s

The 1950s saw the emergence of industrial design in many countries. This is thanks to the explosion of mass consumption.

Thanks to this movement, furniture and objects become more functional, more modular, but also more minimalist. New materials are emerging such as plastic.

It was during this decade that the Scandinavian style gained worldwide recognition.

1950s lamp: the design proposed by the ArtJL brand

In keeping with their time, several ArtJL lamps have an industrial style, with geometric shapes.

To mark the emergence of the Scandinavian style, other 50s ArtJL lamps were created in white to recall this very refined design.

They fit perfectly in a living room (on a coffee table or a dining table), in an office, in a bedroom (on a bedside table or a chest of drawers), in a small space or in a loft.

How does Jérôme Peyronnet produce each 1950s lamp?

Designer Jérôme Peyronnet makes these lamps with a retro design from old obsolete radiators, forgotten in the attic of our grandparents. It gives them a second life. This is called upcycling. This current refers to the action of recovering objects that we no longer have use in order to bring them to life differently. With upcycling, he upgrades these old radiators into beautiful high-end designer lamps. All are unique pieces, numbered and signed.

Every time he turns a old radiator in fixture, he spends a lot of time cleaning it, taking it apart, sanding it and painting it. Once in perfect condition, so that it becomes a lamp, he adds a lighting system (socket and bulb), as well as a new electric wire and a switch.

If your decoration is monochrome, choose a bright color instead to bring creativity to your decor.

What kind of lighting do you need?

For a living room or a bedroom, we recommend that you choose warm lighting, for a soft, warm light, tending towards yellow (from 1000 to 5000 Kelvin). This will help you create a cozy atmosphere.

For an office, for optimal lighting, opt instead to use natural, clear, white light of around 3,300 to 5,000 Kelvin. If that is not enough, you can choose a light intensity close to daylight (over 5,300 Kelvin).

The majority of our ArtJL lights are equipped with LED bulbs, low consumption (from 2 to 20 Watts). Several of them have an Edison LED bulb. With LED lighting, there is no heat release.
